It doesn't make me feel that bad for the unemployed guy for some reason. It just seems like he needs to do the interviews better, and not walk around slouched over. I'm pretty sure someone would give him a job if he actually wanted one. Also, he doesn't even run, and in real life, the time between the interviews etcetera is probably at least a day or two. Game just seems to support whiny behaviour.

Ha ha! I was just going to post this and you got there first. The whole sanctions system in the UK is ridiculous and pointlessly cruel. I've heard of DWP staff having parties and getting easter eggs because they've hit their sanctions targets, which according to IDS and Mark Hoban don't officially exist. I heard of one guy being sanctioned because he actually got a job and didn't bother signing on

not sure how much sympathy ive got, jsa is supposed to be temporary whilst youre looking for a job.
although i would much rather raise the allowance and stop benefit to anyone who has been unemployed longer than 6 months. no excuse if youre able bodied.

Actually it's easier to find a job if you already got a job... I've struggled 8 month to find a job (15 interviews with no success) then I went back to uni, did an internship then get hired where i did my internship 2 month ago. Since then i've been contacted by 3 companies for the same kind of job.
It's not all about doing a great interview etc, it's also having a good profile, and being unemployed is not a good profile to hire these days.

If employers won't hire the unemployed, then they are at blame for unemployment. I find a lot of employment practices these days to be utterly stupid, because employers are far too risk-averse to take a gamble. In some ways, I'm glad I'm on the sick, because I don't have to go through all the bullshit. I'd rather be working, but all the crap and hoop-jumping that they make jobseekers go through these days would make me more ill. The Tory government seem to want to punish people for being unemployed rather than come up with an effective strategy to create jobs or create an environment in which employers feel confident enough to employ people. Workfare schemes aren't the answer because it means that employers have fewer incentives to take on paid staff if they can get free labour laid on by the state.
